CHICAGO (AP)—Quemont Greer scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead DePaul to a 70-59 victory over Dayton on Wednesday.
Drake Diener had 14 points and LeVar Seals added 12 for the Blue Demons (3-1).
Monty Scott led the Flyers (1-2) with 14 points and eight rebounds. Norman Plummer added 12 for Dayton.
DePaul led 34-26 at halftime.
Led by Greer, DePaul came out strong in the second half, building a 19-point lead. The Flyers fought back and cut the lead to just eight.
Dayton’s defense held the Blue Demons without a point for a 6:11 stretch late in the second half. Dayton’s poor shooting, however, kept the team from putting together a solid rally.
The Flyers shot just 40 percent overall and 33 percent in the second half. The team was also just 5-for-20 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Greer was playing in his second game of the season after sitting out the Blue Demons’ first two games due to academic problems.
This was the first meeting bwteen the teams since DePaul defeated Dayton 76-69 in double overtime in the first round of last year’s NCAA tournament.
