WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP)—Jamon Gordon scored 20 points, Carlos Dixon had 18 and Virginia Tech closed the first half on an 18-5 run Sunday and beat William & Mary 80-63.

The Hokies (3-0) led only 24-20 before a steal by Dixon and two free throws by Marquie Cooke started the surge. Dixon had two more steals and four baskets in the run, which gave the Hokies a 42-25 lead. The Tribe (2-2) never got closer than 15 again.

Dixon finished with eight rebounds, six assists and five steals. Zabian Dowdell added 17 points and Deron Washington had 10 as the Hokies shot 51.6 percent from the field.

Corey Cofield led the Tribe with 14 points, Nathan Mann had 11 and Hawley Smith and Nate Loehrke 10. Smith added 11 rebounds and Loehrke nine.

Gordon his four 3-pointers and Dowdell three for the Hokies, who won despite being outscored 18-7 at the free throw line and outrebounded 38-28.

William & Mary shot just 39 percent overall.
