COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)—Winstonn Tubbs took an inbounds pass from Lawrence Hamm and scored inside with less than a second remaining in the second overtime, giving Towson a 71-69 victory over Morgan State on Tuesday night in the second round of the Guardians Classic.
Cantrell Fletcher scored 20 points for Towson (1-1), with Mike Green adding 16, Tubbs 13 and Hamm 12.
Sam Brand led Morgan State (0-2) with 21 points. Christopher Grant had 14 points and Aaron Andrews 13.
Hamm hit a layup with 15 seconds left in regulation to force the first overtime, with Grant missing a jumper with 2 seconds left.
Fletcher’s basket with 22 seconds remaining in the first overtime allowed Morgan State to get off two late shots for the win, but both Grant and Brand missed.
Fletcher hit a pair of foul shots for a 69-68 lead with 50 seconds remaining in the second overtime, with Timothy Berkley making the second of two free throws with 21 seconds left to tie the game at 69.
The Tigers called two timeouts, the latter with 2 seconds remaining. Hamm inbounded from the baseline to Tubbs, who put in the short bank shot with defenders on his back.
It was Pat Kennedy’s first victory as Towson’s head coach.
