TOWSON, Md. (AP)—Troy Godwin scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Virginia Commonwealth beat Towson 68-44 on Saturday.
Godwin shot 9-for-14 from the floor as the Rams pulled away in the second half to beat Towson (6-17, 3-11 Colonial Athletic Association) for the sixth time in a row. VCU (16-7, 10-4) led 32-24 at the half, shooting 58 percent from the floor in the second half.
At the eight minute mark of the first half, VCU went on an 18-0 run and held the Tigers scoreless for nearly seven minutes, building a 23-11 lead with 5:48 left in the half.
In the second half, VCU held Towson to 22 percent shooting from the floor. The Rams held Towson without a basket for the final 6:40 of the game. The Rams also forced 16 Tiger turnovers.
Michael Doles added 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting, while Drew Johnson scored 10 points by hitting 4-of-5 shots from the floor.
Jamaal Gilchrist led the Tigers with 13 points.
