Georgetown 76, Norfolk State 53
WASHINGTON (AP)— Gerald Riley scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half and Georgetown overcame a sloppy first half to beat Norfolk State 76-53 on Wednesday night.
Riley scored 10 points to spark a 20-2 run early in the second half that put the game away for the Hoyas (5-0), who led just 32-30 at halftime after committing 11 of their 17 turnovers in the first half.
Chakowby Hicks scored 21 to lead the Spartans (0-4), who turned the ball over 26 times, a modest improvement over last week’s 33 turnover performance in a 80-56 loss to Missouri-Kansas City.
Hicks gave the Spartans a 33-32 lead with a 3-pointer on Norfolk State’s first possession of the second half before Georgetown’s decisive run. The Spartans never got closer than 14 after that.
Brandon Bowman added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Hoyas, who also had 17 steals.
