POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP)—E.J. Gallup scored 23 points to lead Coastal Carolina to a 74-70 win over Marist in the first round of the Pepsi-Marist Classic on Saturday night.
Gallup was 8-of-12 from the floor and his three consecutive three-point shots sparked a 15-4 run that gave Coastal Carolina a 69-57 lead with 3:52 left in the game.
Gallup also had six assists and a steal.
After leading 29-28 at the half, Coastal Carolina (1-0) shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the second half. Mihai Raducanu added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and Brandon Newby grabbed nine rebounds.
Marist recovered from Coastal’s run to score the next 10 points and pulled within 69-67, but couldn’t take the lead.
Marist, which shot just 40.9 percent from the field for the game, was led by Brandon Ellerbee’s 14 points.
Pierre Monagan had 13 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Red Foxes (0-2). Kerry Parks added 12 points and eight rebounds.
