TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—Ike Diogu scored 21 points and neutralized Nebraska’s strength inside as Arizona State beat the Cornhuskers 75-63 Saturday night to win its holiday tournament for the 11th time in 14 years.
Bucknell beat UC Santa Barbara 67-60 in the consolation game of the ASU/azcentral.com Hoops Classic.
Tommy Smith had a season-high 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Arizona State (8-3), which won its fourth straight.
Andrew Drevo had 21 points for Nebraska (5-5). Nate Johnson scored 18 points and Jake Muhleisen had 15.
The Sun Devils led by 15 points at halftime and opened a 54-32 lead on Diogu’s three-point play with 13:32 left to play.
At that point, Nebraska center John Turek had fouled out, and Drevo had four fouls. But the Cornhuskers rallied with a 13-0 surge capped by Wesley Wilkinson’s two free throws with 9:18 to go.
Diogu had another three-point play, and Curtis Millage had seven of his 11 points in the next three minutes, and Kyle Dodd sent Arizona State to a 67-54 lead with a 3-pointer with 5:10 left.
Nebraska took its only lead on Muhleisen’s jumper to break a 10-10 tie early in the game.
But the Sun Devils began hitting from outside during a 22-4 run and opened a 32-16 lead on Smith’s two free throws with 6:08 left in the first half.
