St. Peter’s 74, Manhattan 72
NEW YORK (AP)—Freshman Keydren Clark hit an off-balance 14-footer with less than a second to play to give St. Peter’s a 74-72 victory over Manhattan on Saturday night.
Luis Flores scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half for Manhattan (4-3, 1-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), including a 3-pointer with 1:39 left that gave the Jaspers their only lead of the half, 70-68.
Rafael Martinez made two free throws for St. Peter’s (3-6, 1-1) to tie it at 70-70. Dave Holmes missed inside for Manhattan, and the Peacocks went up 72-70 on a tip-in by Melvin Robinson.
Flores tied it at 72-72 on a short jumper with 22 seconds to play.
Clark then dribbled out the remaining time before working inside the foul line for his winning score. The ball stayed on the back of the rim for an instant before rolling in with .7 seconds left.
Robinson and Corien John each had 18 points for the Peacocks, who snapped a six-game losing streak to the Jaspers.
St. Peter’s finished 14-of-19 from the free throw line, while the Jaspers were 7-of-8.
