Wyoming 73, Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 62
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP)—Marc Bailey, battling flu and a sore ankle, scored 17 points and David Rottinghaus came off the bench to score 13 as Wyoming rallied for a 73-62 win Thursday over Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
Bailey sank 5-of-10 from the floor and scored seven points during a 13-0 Wyoming surge that left the Cowboys up 71-54 with 4:08 left and put the game out of reach.
Alex Dunn and Joe Ries each added 12 points for Wyoming (5-2), which was plagued by poor outside shooting. The Cowboys were 1-of-14 (7 percent) from the arc.
Ric Wyand led Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne (2-8) with 14 points, while Jim Kessenich had 12 and Terry Collins 10.
Rottinghaus highlighted an 8-0 run midway through the second half with a fast-break dunk and a tip-in. The spurt, started by Mory Correa’s twisting jumper in the lane, erased IPFW’s 46-45 advantage and gave Wyoming the lead for good.
The Cowboys, who trailed much of the opening period, broke away from a halftime tie on a basket by Ries and two field goals by Omoniyi Makun to go up 39-33.
IPFW fought back and led 46-45 on an inside basket and free throw by Kessenich with 14:13 remaining, the Mastodons’ last lead.
Twice IPFW led by as much as five in the first half but went into the locker room tied at 33 after a layup by Dunn with 46 seconds left.
Wyand, who had nine first-half points, hit a 3-point basket at the 4:27 mark to put the Mastodons up 28-23.
Wyoming was without 6-foot-10-inch Uche Nsonwu-Amadi for a fourth time because of a sore knee.
