Columbia 58, Army 44

NEW YORK (AP)—Maurice Murphy scored eight of his 14 points in the second half as Columbia snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 58-44 victory over Army on Friday night.

Columbia (1-6) lost its final three games last season and first six games this year. The Lions had lost 13 of their last 14 overall before Friday.

Tito Hill scored 11 points and Jeremiah Boswell added 10 for the Lions.

Sean O’Keefe and Andy Smith each scored 14 for Army (2-3).

Columbia led 37-18 early in the second half and 41-23 before Smith and O’Keefe led a 13-4 run that cut Army’s deficit to nine points, 45-36, with 6:47 left.

Columbia, which had led by at least 10 points since midway through the first half, went on an 11-2 run, extending its lead to 56-38 with 2:58 left. Murphy scored six points in the run.
