Wyoming 72, Loyola Marymount 65
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP)—Uche Nsonwu-Amadi scored 23 points and pulled down 18 rebounds as Wyoming defeated Loyola Marymount 72-65 Saturday for fifth place in the Great Alaska Shootout.
Marcus Bailey added 11 points for the Cowboys (3-1). Keith Kincade led Loyola Marymount (3-2) with 14 points. Charles Brown and Sherman Gay had 12 apiece, with Gay’s all coming in the second half.
Wyoming pushed the lead to 53-41 with 9:24 remaining before a 16-3 run gave the Lions a 57-56 advantage with 4:13 left.
Behind Nsonwu-Amadi, the Cowboys reeled off nine straight points and Loyola got no closer than three the rest of the way. Donta Richardson hit five free throws in the final 43 seconds to hold off the Lions.
Wyoming led most of the first half. A basket by Nsonwu-Amadi gave the Cowboys a 26-18 lead with 5:25 remaining, but eight straight points by Loyola Marymount tied it with just more than two minutes left. Wyoming hit two free throws for a 28-26 halftime lead.
Wyoming shot just 29 percent and Loyola 31 percent for the half.
The Cowboys outrebounded Loyola 46-31 but shot 36-for-53 from the free-throw line.
