College of Charleston 81, Wyoming 72
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP)—Joe Weurding scored 14 points, including 11 in the second half, and College of Charleston defeated Wyoming 81-72 Wednesday in the opening round of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.
Troy Wheless added 13 points, and Zeke Johnson 12 and eight rebounds for the Cougars (3-0).
Marcus Bailey and Donta Richardson each scored 21 for Wyoming (1-1) and Richardson pulled down 10 rebounds.
Two free throws by Marcus Johnson with 8:07 remaining gave the Cougars their biggest lead of the first half, 29-14.
Wyoming shot just 6-of-15 from the free-throw line in the first half and finished 17-of-31.
After Wyoming opened the second with a 3-pointer by Richardson, Charleston went on a 12-2 run to go ahead 51-33.
Wyoming closed to 68-62 on a basket by Bailey with 2:25 remaining but no closer.
