Wyoming 85, Denver 65
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP)—Marcus Bailey scored 23 points and Uche Nsonwu-Amadi had 13 points and 14 rebounds as Wyoming opened its season with an 85-65 win over Denver Saturday.
Returning four starters from a team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, Wyoming (1-0) used a 14-2 run to open up a 28-10 lead at the 6:22 mark of the first half en route to a 38-19 halftime advantage.
Bailey paced Wyoming with 15 points in the half, followed by Donta Richardson with 12. The Cowboys outrebounded the Pioneers 26-11 in the half and 44-25 for the game.
Denver’s leading scorer, B.J. Pratt, who averaged 13.9 points a game last season, managed just two points in the half after taking only three shots. He finished the game with 10 points.
The Cowboys ran away from the Pioneers (0-1) in the second half, building leads of as much as 29 points.
Bailey shot 9-of-15 from the field and made all four of his free throws. Richardson finished with 16 points and Jay Straight added 12.
Denver was led by Carvell McAlister’s 13 points.
It was the 136th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming holds the series advantage 95-41.
