Yahoo! Contributor NetworkKentucky basketball fan reaction: Kentucky loses in the Final Four
Kentucky lost to UConn in the Final Four by a score of 56-55. The Wildcats shot a miserable 33% from the field. The poor shooting reminded many Wildcat fans of the West Virginia game from 2010 when they bricked 28 three-point attempts in the game, going 4-32 from behind the arc.
Brandon Knight
Brandon Knight took most of their shots going 6-24 and 3-12 from behind the arc. Knight is a great player but he was not at his best in this game. On many plays, he was out of control. He played his butt off, though. He had eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
He had a great freshman season. Among all freshman in Wildcat history, Knight is the top scorer, has the most three pointers, and the most 20 point games.
Poor shooting
DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller were each 1-7 from the floor. Doron Lamb was 5-10 and is their best shooter. Perhaps he should have taken more shots. All those screens for Knight might have been better used on Lamb. When a player is shooting so poorly like Knight, someone else should start taking some shots. If the Miller from the Princeton game showed up, the Cats would have won.
Free Throws
Even with all that in mind, they still could have won if only they hit more free throws. The Wildcats were a horrible 4-13 (31%) from the line. Terrence Jones had a nice overall game with 16 boards and 11 points but he missed all of his five freebies. Jones can be a force in the paint but I cringe every time he has the ball around the three point line. He does make some but usually, an awkward play is coming. If he had only made two of his five free throws, it might have been different.
Josh Harrellson
This was Josh Harrellson's last game. He was pretty much ignored for the final 15 minutes in the game. When he was on the bench, it was very noticeable. The defense in the paint suffered.
Harrellson has done enough to be drafted. He will make some money playing basketball somewhere in a few months.
Good luck to Jorts.
Next Year
Who will be back? Who cares? Coach Cal will figure that out. The bottom line is that they lost a big game they should have won.
