San Diego State Moves Up to 12 and 13 in National Polls: Fan’s Reaction

San Diego State basketball climbed their way up in the national polls once again this week. A week after being ranked 16th overall, San Diego State now finds themselves ranked even higher. The USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll has SDSU ranked 12th overall, while the AP poll has them ranked 13th in the nation. Both have the Aztec basketball team improving after a week where they went 2-0 to move their overall record to 17-2

San Diego State is currently on a 10 game wining streak and is one of the hottest college basketball teams in the nation. In the last week, San Diego State played and defeated Mountain West opponents New Mexico and Air Force. Both were difficult games against quality opponents.

San Diego State is being lead on the season by four guards. Their four guard lineup of Chase Tapley, Jamaal Franklin, Xavier Thames and James Rahon, was first introduced three games ago when they began Mountain West conference play. While this could present problems against teams with quality big men, San Diego State has excelled playing their athletic guards along with one big man.

Tapley is currently leading the team averaging 16.7 points per game. He's shooting an astounding 51% from the field and 48% from three point range. Franklin has played extremely well of late and is averaging 15.5 points per game for the season. Franklin also leads the team at 6.4 rebounds per game. In the teams big wins lately, he's played his best games. Thames and Rahon are averaging 11.7 and 10.7 points per game respectively. Thames is the point guard and leads the team with 5.3 assists per game. The best sign for Aztec fans is that each of these four are in either their sophomore of junior seasons and have another year of eligibility remaining at San Diego State.

As a fan, I'm enjoying watching San Diego State slowly climb their way up in the polls. This is a very good team that had the potential to go very far in the postseason tournaments. Another Mountain West title and a deep run in the NCAA tournament is not out of reach. This team has started to demand as much attention as last seasons memorable team. San Diego State fans have come to get used to and appreciate their excellent basketball teams.
