Yahoo! Contributor NetworkKentucky Hoops Fan: Season Review for Each Kentucky Player
How are the Kentucky Wildcats doing so far? Here is a look at each player.
Doron Lamb - Lamb is the Wildcats' most consistent scoring threat. Of course, he is a great shooter and is among the best three point shooters in UK history. He is so much more than that, though. His runner is tough to defend and he can go to the hoop. He is mentally tough and does not back down from knocking down big shots. He isn't intimidated by anyone. He also takes care of the ball (less than one turnover per game) and his defense is improved, as well. He is Kentucky's best player so far.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - MKG is an amazing player. He is relentless on defense and has a motor that doesn't seem to stop. He is difficult to defend when he slashes to the rim. His jump shot could use some work but he is hitting over 40% of his three point attempts. He can get out of control at times but MKG is a fun player to watch.
Anthony Davis - Davis has been impressive so far. His offensive game in the post is raw and might improve when they start getting him the ball in scoring position (other than lobs). He makes up for his deficiencies on offense with his shot blocking, rebounding, and defense. If he can start hitting 12-15 foot jump shots, he could be a force on both ends.
Darius Miller - Miller always has done the little things that are needed to win games. He seems more hesitant with his jumper this year but he will surely have some big games as the year progresses.
Terrence Jones - Jones is in a bit of a slump since the second half of the North Carolina game. He was benched down the stretch against Indiana. He is now dealing with the pain of a dislocated finger . Before the slump, Jones looked like he made improvements to his defense and was shooting better. Hopefully, he will turn things around but his contributions generally seem to be unappreciated by Big Blue Nation.
Marquis Teague - Teague has shown flashes of greatness. It looks like he has learned to play more under control and has taken care of his early season turnover problems. He has the most room for improvement on the team. Teague has also played tight defense and leads the team in steals. He needs to work on shot selection and staying under control.
Eloy Vargas - Vargas has improved a lot since last year and could see an increased role as the season goes along . He is more aggressive down low and improved his rebounding. He is not the liability he was at times last season. Those looking for a Jorts-like improvement might be disappointed but he is a solid big man to come off the bench.
Kyle Wiltjer - Wiltjer looks as if he needs to get more comfortable in the games. Defense is important to Coach Cal and Wiltjer's is keeping him from getting more playing time. He is going to be really good but it might be next season before we see it.
