Three guards ineligible to face AIC

HARTFORD, Conn. - Guards Jerome Dyson, Donnell Beverly and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel will not play in UConn’s game against American International tonight pending their athletic eligibility, according to the athletic department.

Dyson and Beverly “are not participating pending routine educational document review for eligibility certification,” a press release reads.

The two are not ineligible due to grades, according to UConn spokesman Kyle Muncy, though no more specific reason has been given.

Coombs-McDaniel has not yet passed through the NCAA clearinghouse, which would qualify him academically to participate in athletics.

Muncy said the situation involving all three players is a short-term issue. The UConn coaching staff was aware of the players’ situations but expected all three to be declared eligible before Wednesday’s 7 p.m. tip-off.

The move leaves UConn with seven available scholarship players for the game.
