Ducks down Concordia 99-61
The University of Oregon men’s basketball team opened the exhibition season with a 99-61 win over Concordia Sunday evening at McArthur Court in Eugene. Five different Ducks scored in double-figures, led by freshman forward Jamil Wilson’s game-high 17 points.
Wilson, from Racine, Wis., went 7-for-10 from the field, adding four steals and three rebounds while playing 18 minutes in his Oregon debut.
Sophomore guard Malcolm Armstead had 14 points and four assists (one turnover), hitting 6-of-12 from the field. Senior forward Joevan Catron and sophomore guard Teondre Williams each had 12 points, while sophomore guard Matt Humphrey finished with 10 points.
Oregon out-rebounded Concordia, 62-28, including 31 boards on the offensive glass. Junior forward LeKendric Longmire had a team-high 10 rebounds (nine offensive).
The Ducks shot 43.7 percent from the field (38-of-87), while making 6-of-25 from behind the 3-point arc (24.0 percent). Oregon hit 17-of-24 free throw attempts for 70.8 percent.
Concordia was limited to 35.1 percent from the field (20-of-57) and 32.1 percent on 3-pointers (9-of-28). The Cavaliers made just 12-of-24 free throws in the game (50.0 percent).
After playing to eight points apiece in the early going, the Ducks proceeded to roll off 14-unanswered points to take a 23-8 lead with 12:58 remaining in the half. Armstead hit a 3-pointer with 6:38 left in the first stanza to give Oregon a 36-15 advantage. The Ducks took a 46-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
Concordia opened the second half with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 48-37. Oregon came back with a run of its own, a 13-0 push over a three-minute span to take a 69-45 advantage with 12:23 left in the game.
The Ducks out-scored the Cavaliers, 24-10, over the final 10 minutes to finish with the 99-61 result.
Concordia was led offensively by Drew Preuninger who had 15 points. Kevan West was the only other CU player to score in double-figures, adding 12 points off the bench.
Oregon will play its final exhibition contest Sunday, Nov. 8, when the Ducks host Lewis and Clark. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. (PT) at McArthur Court in Eugene.
