Duquesne coach Ron Everhart has suspended B.J. Monteiro indefinitely in response to his recent arrest in Connecticut.

Monteiro is facing charges in his native Connecticut that resulted from the alleged theft of an iPod, a laptop computer and cash.

Monteiro and two others, including one juvenile, turned themselves into police in Torrington over the weekend and were charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. They are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 13.

Everhart told Dave Mackall from the Pittsburgh Tribune Review how he felt about B.J.’s actions, “I’m very disappointed in B.J’s lack of judgment and hope it will not negatively reflect on the other student-athletes in the program, It is our hope that B.J. learns a valuable lesson from this unfortunate situation and can return to our program in the near future.”

Monteiro was a starter at the beginning of last season for the Dukes before losing his spot in the starting lineup to fellow freshman Melquan Bolding. Monteiro transitioned into a role player as the season wore on but was looking for increased playing this year with the graduation of Aaron Jackson.
