NCAA clears Indiana freshman to play basketball

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP)—Indiana freshman Bawa Muniru has been cleared by the NCAA to play college basketball this season.

The Hoosiers had been waiting for the NCAA’s eligibility center to make its ruling on Muniru, a 6-foot-11, 260-pound center from Tumu, Ghana. Muniru played high school ball the last two seasons in the U.S. The decision takes immediate effect.

Coach Tom Crean said he understood it would take the NCAA time to do a thorough review and appreciated the work done both by the eligibility center and compliance officials at Indiana.

The Hoosiers host St. Joseph’s in their final exhibition Monday night, then open the season at home against Howard on Nov. 13.

It is going to take a couple of years to clean up the mess that Davis and Sampson got IU in. I really do believe that you will see a big change this year from last. GO IU

PATIENCE YOUNG MAN PATIENCE!!!!! Being a UK fan ALL I can say is his, Tom CREAN is truely one of if not the most Underrated Coaches in the game....So be ready BIG TEN, after sampson it will take a little longer but CREAN will get it done...even if us CATS fans are'nt thrilled about..But some of us see a Quality program when we see it, BIG RED will be Fine....GO BIG BLUE!!!

Hey, I"m a HUGE Hoosiers fan- born and raised in B-town, graduated from IU.... but- we need to be realistic when we talk about this guy. There's a reason this guy was only a 3-star recruit. Quite simply, he doesn't have the athletic gifts to be what Walt or Benson was to IU basketball. I'll be satisfied if he's as good as say.. Todd Lindeman or Jeff Newton. Those guys weren't great, by any stretch, but they were good role players. I think that's probably the ceiling for Bawa, and honestly if he can do that, it will be a huge step in the right direction for our program.

    Go Hoosiers!

I hope he can become as good as the all time best IU center - Walter Bellamy, IU 1960. Olympic Gold Medalist and one of the best big men in the NBA, ranked right there with Russell & Wilt. Go Hoosiers!
