Knight to headline Indiana hall fundraiser Dec. 17
INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Bob Knight is returning to Indiana after all.
The former Hoosiers coach will speak at a Dec. 17 fundraiser in Indianapolis to benefit the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
The event comes less than six weeks after Knight missed a ceremony inducting him into Indiana University’s athletics Hall of Fame in Bloomington.
Knight’s exclusion from the IU hall had been a contentious issue since then-President Myles Brand fired him in September 2000 for violating a zero-tolerance policy.
Knight said he would not attend the ceremony because he did not want to detract from the other inductees.

You are most likely 100% correct in your statements. But he was still a great coach. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't think I would want my kids to play basketball for him nor would would I enjoy or want to sit down and have a beer with him. Truly one of a kind.

I feel sorry for those of you who suffer, so self-consciously. tremendous feelings of inferiority. If Coach simply walked into your presence you would have to excuse yourself to go change your underwear because you would crap your pants like all cowards do in the presence of a man they could never imagine being anything like.

How "clean" was Indiana's program under Knight? Probably about as clean as most others: easy courses and majors to help needy (football and basketball) players get by, helpers writing some players' papers, friendly profs, etc. As an instructor at the "big" Big 10 school in the 1980s, I know this first hand. To me, it was (and remains) pure exploitation.

His son is following in his footsteps and doing well, as other Coaches. Just because he was abrasive and uncouth, gives no one the right to say he was a bad Coach.
