Savannah State holds on to beat SC State 73-60

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP)—Arnold Louis had 14 points and 12 rebounds for his third straight double-double as Savannah State opened up a big lead and then held on to beat South Carolina State 73-60 Saturday.

The Tigers (13-10, 7-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 23-8 lead with 7:09 elapsed and led 41-27 at halftime.

The Bulldogs (4-18, 0-9) opened the second half on a 15-4 run, capped by Omar Sanders’ jumper with 14:51 left, to trim the deficit to three points.

Rashad Hassan’s dunk sparked a 9-0 Savannah State run to push the lead back into double figures.

The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 44.6 percent (25 of 56) to 36.9 percent (24 of 65), but Savannah State made 8 of 20 3-pointers compared to just 2 of 6 for S.C. State.

Brandon Riley scored 18 points and Sanders added 12 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots for South Carolina State.
