Malone, Auburn defeat Georgia Southwestern 78-50
AUBURN, Ala. (AP)—Andre Malone scored 17 points and Rob Chubb 12 as Auburn lost one big early lead, then pulled away again for a 78-50 victory over Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday night.
The Tigers (2-4) led 13-1 just 4:41 into the game, with Malone getting six of their points.
But Georgia Southwestern (3-2), a Division II team, tied it by scoring the next 12 points. Trayce Macon, who led the Hurricanes with 15 points, and Evan Mobley scored six points each during that run.
Auburn led 32-26 at halftime and still led by just six, 44-38, with 14:43 left in the game. The Tigers then reeled off the next 11 points, six by Chubb, for a 55-38 lead at the 9:53 mark. Auburn scored the final 11 points of the game.
Georgia Southwestern, which came in shooting 54.1 percent on the season, managed just 32.7 percent (16 of 49) against the Tigers, who shot 51.7 percent (31 of 60).
