This happened Monday night, but it somehow eluded my radar until yesterday. I
apologize, I really haven't been dilligent enough in keeping you up-to-date on
what's happening in the middle of the SWAC.
With thanks to the excellent Storming
the Floor, here's a short timeline of the events at the end of the Arkansas
Pine-Bluff vs. Texas Southern game:
1) Arkansas Pine-Bluff guy nails a just-inside-halfcourt shot to tie the game at
the buzzer.
2) Several of the less scholarly Arkansas Pine-Bluff students rush the court,
despite the fact that a) the game was not over and they had not won, b) they're
12-14, and if even they had just won, it would have been against a 7-20
team, and c) really, aren't a and b enough?
3) The official charges Arkansas Pine-Bluff with a technical foul. Texas
Southern is awarded two free throws before the beginning of overtime, allowing
Texas Southern to take a 2-point lead into overtime. This is rare.
4) Arkansas Pine-Bluff, naturally, loses by one point.
Said Pine-Bluff's head coach
afterwards:
"You can't blame it on any one thing because we made a bushel of mistakes. But the difference in the game was the technical foul on our fans."I think you can blame it on one thing, coach. In fact, I think you just did.
