The Dagger - NCAAB

I love the fact that one curse word from the mouth of Roy Williams generates an entire news article, as if he were the President of the United States, and he just closed his state of the union address with the middle finger.

If we had to write about it every time a coach used a naughty word, we'd run out of room on the Internet. There would have to be an entire newspaper, with daily and evening editions, dedicated to Bob Huggins alone. There'd be a worldwide ink shortage.

Roy's offending word of choice was the big one, the F-bomb, used to help describe his team's poor full-court press. And even though he apologized profusely for it, and even though it's not the first time Roy's needed to have his mouth washed out with soap, it's still big news to somebody.

Here's the video from WRAL (the profanity is bleeped):

I still say the funniest part of the whole deal was Roy's mimicking his team's cordial and neighborly style of defensive pressure. I didn't know Roy had that kind of comedy in him.

As for the potty mouth, yeah, we did know he had that in him. He's human. It happens. Apology accepted.

Gracias, Deadspin.

This is exactly why college basketball needs a bowl system instead of a playoff.

I'm surprised Roy didn't start crying after he said it. What a total puzzy that man is.

OK, I'm a Duke grad....but Roy Williams has proven to be a class act from the minute he got to Carolina. He is a credit to the game and a worthy opponent. His players seem to take on his gentlemanly demeanor and don't take their success for granted. That said, GTHC-GTH!

Must be a slow sports news day.
Although just the fact an article was written because Roy said one curse word speaks volumes on the class the man has. To hear him curse is so shocking, it's funny.

Dean Smith never used vulgar language, then Dean Smith was in class all by himself. Roy Williams is a good coach, but he can't hold a candle to the great Dean Smith.

I think a lot of people above hit the nail on the head. Roy is such a class act that he doesn't (normally) curse, so to hear him use one of those words is shocking, hilarious, and powerful (when he curses, you know there's a gosh-darn good reason for it). So yeah, maybe it was a slow news day, but this is the sort of light-hearted and fun news that I like to hear. Thanks for sharing, MJD.

Roy Williams is THE class act in the ACC of coaches, period. He is gracious in defeat and wins alike. His passion for the game and its players speaks volumes about the man. So, give the man a break for saying a curse word now and then. GO HEELS!!!!!!!!!

I was at the game and I agree with what Coach said! And if you can honestly say that you have never used a cuss word or said the "F" word in your lifetime, well then I would say you are either a liar or suffering from loss of memory. Go Tar Heels Go!!

Why is this even being discussed. So Coach Williams used a cuss word. Why isn't the guy eight miles down the road, who could make the hardest of sailors blush with his colorful vocabulary ever taken to task? There's no Tarantino movies that have worse language than he during a game.

I played as a walk-on at Kansas and I can count on one hand the number of times he used a four letter word, let alone the "f-bomb". And this includes practice, where he got pretty upset a few times. If a player talked like that he was known to make the whole team run. In the end, who really cares... it's just a word.

It does not suprise me. John Wooden is the only coach I have ever seen that shows any king of discipline with his mouth. Sports has degraded to the lowest levels with trash talk, tatoos, alcohol, OTHER drugs, excessive waste and useless thinking. Oh yes, they graduated from FINE universities did they not. And I bet they maded their mama proud.

When Roy Williams curses it never comes across as genuine. He has more of a Opie Taylor Andy Griffith thing going on with the dabgummits and gosh darnits. So when he cusses he just seems like a big faker. He needs to get with Bob Knight and get some real lessons on how to be a f****** a** whole.
