The Dagger - NCAAB

There was no shortage of ridicule heaped on Duke guard Greg Paulus during his basketball career. Some of it was probably deserved; there are certain chumpy things that, when done on a basketball court, will cause people to make fun of you. Greg Paulus occasionally did those things. (See here, for example.)

But there were also plenty of times when Paulus probably didn't deserve the ridicule, when he was merely trying to help his team win in an honest and respectable fashion, but when he was ridiculed anyway. For example, every time he was dunked on. It's not like Greg Paulus can help that he's going to get dunked on, right? It's not exactly his fault. In retrospect, it was probably a little unfair of us.

But that's all over now. Paulus has moved on to an unlikely football career, and we've all moved on to watching Jerry Stackhouse get embarrassed. Except for Virginia Tech. They're keeping the dream alive.

Yes, that's a photo of Paulus being dunked on by (who I believe to be) Virginia Tech's Dwayne Collins (update: it's actually Deron Washington, big thanks to the Maj), though that could be a different dunk. Not sure. What I do know is that the photo adorns a wall in Virginia Tech's new $21 million practice facility, meaning the dunking-on-Greg-Paulus will be immortalized forever in the sacred halls of Hokiedom.

Poor Greg. He was only trying to take a charge!

I believe it was Deron Washington. Dwayne Collins played for Miami ... though he did dunk on Paulus as well.

Thanks everyone for the comments letting me know it was Deron Washington and not Collins. I had a few tips to that effect as well. Much appreciated.

Eamonn: Wow, another piece about Duke/a Duke player. This is getting old. Just admit that you want to take long, hot showers with Wojo, and we can all move forward. That is the only rationale available to explain your need to put together crap like this on Duke every single week (sometimes every day). You're weak.

Does Maryland even have a basketball team anymore? Oh yeah, they do; they just aren't good anymore. MD twerps fans have Duke penis envy, and the twerps athletes have the worst academic record in the ACC. What a bad combo.
