The Dagger - NCAAB

At 2-5 in the Pac-10, Arizona itself might be a bit of a doormat, but that doesn't make it OK to just go around and wipe your feet on Chase Budinger's face.

That's what Houston's Aubrey Coleman did to Budinger yesterday, and while I can't say for sure that I know the man's intent, you know, he did stomp on a guy's face, showed no signs of offering any kind of apology, and smiled while receiving a congratulatory "Hey, way to step on that guy's face!" high-five on his way off the floor. To me, that's unsportsmanlike.

Arizona went on to win 96-90 in overtime, despite the fact that Houston led 63-51 at the time of the face-stomping. Consider that your daily dose of karma, Mr. Coleman.

Shades of Duke's Chritian Laettner stomping on the chest of Kentucky's Aminu Timberlake in the infamous 1992 NCAA East Regional final. The only difference was that Laettner did not get ejected, because he was one of the early Duke "golden boys".

I'm hoping Houston Coach Tom Penders changes his tune after watching this clip. Otherwise he is as big a jerk as Coleman. Here's his quote:
Penders said. "I'm just sorry the official interpreted it that way. The way I saw it, Aubrey got tangled and his momentum carried him forward and I think it was a mistake."

To Maguro, he did get ejected in this game as I heard them say he got a flagrant and ejected. Not to mention, Penders said they could have used him the rest of the game. I think he should have because his foot stomp seemed to be more obvious while walking on Budinger's face.

coleman did get ejected. and this was definitely worse than what laettner did to timberlake. laettner deserved a technical foul, but he didn't try to leave sneaker prints on the guy's face. feel free to compare and contrast:

I hate the NBA for this reason. It appears the NCAA is turning into the NBA! Soon we will only have thugs playing this once great game!! With that said, I still have my daughters 3&4 grade team to watch.

If you watch this thing the guy was smiling after he stepped hard, I did not see momentum carry him over the guy, it looks like he could have stopped but then just did it to do it. This guy should be suspended

The NCAA should be considering whether a season long suspension is in the best interest of ALL of College Basketball. I believe that such a deterent is what is needed here. Unfortunately, this seems like the type of attack that could occur again.

This is one of the most unsportsmanlike actions I have ever seen. Let's not forget that outside a basketball court, you can be charged with assualt for steping (more like stomping) on someone's face. Wow, Coleman seems to lack even a shred of decency.

Unbelievable. NCAA needs to take action stuff like this because that is terrible. And to watch the teammates high five him with smiles on their faces after it went down....embarrassing. Penders and the NCAA need to take action on this. Unfortunately I don't think either will. Absolutely disgusting.

That could have messed up Chase Budinger's neck, if not just a physical injury, he could have been paralyzed or damaged in some way. The way his head hit the ground with the weight of a grown man pushing him, could've hurt hin badly. That was freakin scary.
