The Dagger - NCAAB

Not that I advocate gambling in any way, shape, or form, especially not on college athletics. Unless you permanently reside in a state that considers gambling a perfectly wholesome, legal activity that is. Then knock yourself out.

For today we have the 2009-10 college basketball odds, the college hoops fan's yearly look at the prevailing Vegas wisdom in the middle of the summer. Prevailing college basketball wisdom, of course. The general prevailing Vegas wisdom, at least in the summer, is "go inside."

Anyway, this is going to look just how most college hoops fans would imagine it: Kansas is listed as the favorites at 4-1, while Kentucky is right on their heels at 5-1. Makes sense, right? Then it gets a little less predictable: Michigan State and Duke are at 15-1 and Purdue, North Carolina and Villanova are at 25-1. The closest to the elite are -- maybe this is a surprise, and maybe not -- Texas and Louisville. The Longhorns are at 10-1 and Rick Pitino's Cardinals are at 12-1, which yeah, you know what? That is a surprise. I'd argue Purdue returns more talent, and given Pitino's offseason personal issues, who knows what could happen in Louisville this year?

But an analysis of the top 10 is for another time (one slightly closer to the season, which thankfully should be happening any day now). For now, you can see what you'd be betting on were you the kind of personal that lays summer action on college basketball, and gosh, you're not that kind of person. Your mom would be so disappointed!

UK is a 5 to 1 favorite to win the NCAA title.....Keep looking over your shoulder Kansas. You have a Kentucky Wildcat ready to pounce if you trip, stumble or fall down and can't get back up. We'll see you in the Final 4!!!! Go-Cats!

CONN returns Robinson, Dyson, Walker, and Edwards...plus adds Majok (finally), Okwandu, Oriakhi, Darius Smith, Coombs-McDaniel. 40-1, I think I will take those odds.
