The one nice thing about Midnight Madness is that schools rarely seem to care who's toting what sort of digital recording equipment with them. It's not like actual game footage, which gets ripped off YouTube almost as soon as it goes up. Midnight Madness is a little more casual. Which means we get to enjoy a bevy of such highlights on the following Monday. (That's thanks largely to Ballin' Is A Habit, which is putting together the definitive YouTube Midnight Madness video collection here.)
Anyway, there are two worthwhile videos from Kentucky's Big Blue Madness. The first is John Wall's layup line highlights, which manage to be both insanely impressive and oddly effortless:
Told you so, right?
The second is John Calipari's entrance and speech to UK's fans.I poked a little bit of fun at the hero worship Calipari has engendered among UK fans -- even the most reasonable, intelligent types won't admit even the most basic of truths about Calipari, which is that he's maybe a just little bit shady -- but the fact is Kentucky fans are freaking jacked for this season. You don't tent up for Midnight Madness tickets unless you're going to cheer this loudly:
Somewhere, the guy that put together the Roman Coliseum-esque 2008 Democratic National Convention stage is wondering if UK's setup isn't a touch too ostentatious.

Um, no. The reasonable ones are hoping (beyond hope?) Calipari doesn't taint anything he accomplishes here. To say we don't acknowledge the way he's done business is kinda silly. It's a risk/reward thing, and considering the Gillispie debacle, the risk, as long as the John Walls of the world keep coming, seems like it's worth it.

And until you explain players like Corey Maggette and the turnstile-like sociology degrees at Duke, I'd save my rock throwing for another day.
