The Dagger - NCAAB

Here's why I'm upset today. Maybe you don't care. That's OK. You don't have to care. I'm still going to tell you.

I'm upset today because Midnight Madness -- or Hoosier Hysteria, or Wildcat Wildness (?), or any of the other nonsensical names for college basketball teams' first practice of the season -- those should not be happening this week. Largely, they are not. Most of them are happening next week, when they should be happening, as the usual rules dictate.

But no. People couldn't just do this all on one night. No. Kentucky, and then Illinois, and West Virginia, and a few other schools had to decide to be all "smart" and "attentive to fine print." And using a loophole that states that teams can have a two hours of workout a week, those teams moved their Midnight Madness up a week, TOTALLY CORRUPTING OUR SYSTEM.

I know I should be happy there's some semblance of college basketball this early, even if it is a glorified practice, the highlights of which I will likely never see. But my fellow Americans, no. I am not happy. Because once upon a time, in college basketball, we believed in a thing called ... well, no, we didn't believe in integrity. But we believed in the sanctity of silly rules regarding practice regulations! Yes we did! Kentucky, Illinois, West Virginia: You have violated this sanctity.

For shame, you scoundrels. For. Shame.

Anyway, those are happening tonight and tomorrow, so get ready. I'll be drinking, um, in protest. Yes. In protest. That's why.

Yeah, my main memories of Midnight Madness at Kansas are of us trying to figure out how to smuggle liqour into Allen Fieldhouse. But we did it with integrity.

In placing the Stanley Cup upside down. Baaaaaad Thing. Maybe he didn't know any better. You would of thought somebody would of instructed him before hand or maybe it was just nerves. Maybe Rock Stars should not take on things they don't understand.

Dude...shut up. Our Athletic Department a.k.a. Billy Gillespie requested and was granted permission from the NCAA before it became a big press release for Simpletons like you to cry and/whine about. If it had been YOUR favorite college b-ball team that had "taken advantage of a loophole" you wouldn't be on here at all. So shut up cfry baby and GO BIG BLUE.

Go Big Blue! I loved how we did it tonight, it gave Daniel Orton and all the other recruits a chance to check out Lexington. Can't wait to see Daniel Orton in our brand new Unis!

I agree with Kevin. besides, I like that it gives recruits the chance to see more than one of their possible school's festivities out. The NCAA should consider staggering these events for that reason. Because UK was one who took advantage of this loophole, the media doesn't approve. Stop whining and GO CATS!!!!!!!!!

West Virginia did it to coincide with their Homecoming Weekend festivities. And I am perfectly ok with it. It doesn't give them an advantage over other teams. CALM DOWN!!!!

Villa Killa...lots of people like to say "The University of Kentucky is washed up...they haven't won a championship in 10 years." Funny...because some schools don't have any. By the way...I know someone else who hasn't won a championship in 10 years plus 2...(and counting)...Prick Pitino. hahaha. Enjoy your choked-up season punk. Remember...you're a red dot on a sea of blue...nothing more.
