When Marcus Jordan decided to eschew the slate of solid schools recruiting him -- Stanford, Oklahoma, Iowa, Miami, Arkansas and Butler among them -- for the University of Central Florida, folks were surprised, but after consideration, it made sense. Jordan is not considered a pro recruit at this point. A few years of dominating at UCF, rather than riding the pine somewhere like Oklahoma, could open up all sorts of possibilities.

But maybe Jordan is already regretting his decision. As Darren Rovell reported last night, Jordan is in the midst of a shoe company war at UCF, where he was promised during his recruitment he'd be allowed to wear his father's Air Jordan brand even though UCF is an Adidas school. Now, Adidas -- which sponsors UCF to the tune of $1.9 million a year -- is dope-slapping that idea with the quickness:

Soon after the comments were made, UCF athletic director Keith Tribble told AOL’s Fanhouse that the freshman could make the decision for himself since there had been a previous precedent set with a UCF football player who wore a different brand of shoe due to the fit.

But adidas spokesperson Andrea Corso told CNBC that no compromise had been reached with the school. “We are in negotiations for a future relationship regarding the broader UCF athletic program,” Corso said. “What I can say is that these relationships are based upon agreed deliverables for both parties.”

In other words, UCF didn't negotiate the terms of Jordan's shoe agreement, and Adidas might want some of that money back. The interesting question is how far UCF will be willing to go to preserve Jordan's right to wear his dad's shoes. Do they accept less money from Adidas? How much less? Or do they go to Nike and sign a new contract before things get silly?

Excuse me ... what's that? I'm getting a message in my ear here. What? This whole thing is already silly? Oh, right. Yeah.

Why should he get an exception? He's not even that good. You dont see John Wall begging Coach Cal to wear New Balance or some other crap.

In the end, this will be much ado about nothing. The school will receive it's money, the Adidas shoes will still be worn, and Junior will get what he wants. It's all about the buisness, not the education. For anyone to think otherwise is just naieve.

It's a pair of $150 shoes. So make the contract for $1,899,850.00 ! Why is Adidas spending that kind of jack on UCF anyways? Sounds like a big waste of money by a soccer shoe company.

There is only one "e" in "education". Before you complain about education, get some.

Because when someone is playing we all stop to look and see what shoe they are wearing...It's gotten to be such a circus in regards to who wears what. If it fits and feels comfortable then wear it. If he scores 15 points in ADIDAS shoes or his dads shoes it's still 15 points, there is no bonus because of his shoes.

Go get a life!! Learn how to play ball or get your own education! Who cares what sneakers he wears, it's already bad enough that Jordan shoes are sold for way more than they are made in the far off sweat shops of China.

well if New Balance made a decent Basketball shoe im sure ppl would wear them and if John Wall was a runner im sure he would wear New Balance and yes the kid is there to get an education not play ball but remember he is Jordans kid im pretty sure he could afford to go to any school in the country. The shoe is part of his fathers legacy i get that he wants to wear them but guess what son if he plans on living in MJ's legacy he aint going far no way. bottom line he need to put on the soccer shoes and play some ball being a Jordan has gotten him this far and he needs to realize that he is A Jordan not THE Jordan and earn his keep.

Why would you even wat your team to wear Addidas? how many injuries has this team had? As Sir Charles would say when someone is on the floor with a broken ankle, "Those ain't Nikes hes wearing."

If the man wants to wear the shoes , let him wear the shoes ! Peter D needs to get off Coach CAL's lap cause he is only in Kentucky for money , the man had broke up the most talented team in the country to play the NCAA game of big school vs. small school money wars . Memphis was robbed by NCAA in the KANSAS GAME and now they buy our coach out time him to BUBBA-VILLE and with those recruits he may finally get the of white chance !

You are all hating, Its not about what he wants to wear, you wich your dad was a multi billionare too. If UCF promise him he could wear his shoes when they where recruiting him then they have to honor it. This in not a dispute over his education its a dispute over a promise that was made to him and now its broken.

Doesn't this seem like the sort of contract dispute you should be hearing from a "professional" basketball team instead of a collegiate program and a shoe company? There are problems with "college" athletics when $1.9 million dollar business agreements are being signed WITH SHOE COMPANIES for crying out loud. There's no telling what kind of money is being thrown around at UNC, Duke, Kentucky, or UCLA if 2 mill is being spent at UCF! No wonder there is so much recruiting corruption when that kind of money is on the line FOR SHOES! Pretty soon kids are going to need agents to negotiate with colleges just to be able to play sports there. It's getting ridiculous.
