The Dagger - NCAAB

Yesterday, I was too busy poking fun at grumpy old Bob Knight to notice this, but it's worth another quick look. In the bottom of the AP story about Knight's new youth basketball facility in Texas, and Knight's gratuitous NCAA insults during a press conference announcing that facility, the AP buried this little nugget.

It concerns Knight's much-awaited reaction to Indiana University's invitation to a Nov. 6 Hall of Fame ceremony honoring Knight's years a coach at the school. Will Knight show up? Will peace reign in Bloomington? It's up to Bob, andright now he ... doesn't know:

Knight was fired at Indiana in 2000 after violating a zero-tolerance behavioural policy. He said Tuesday he hadn't decided whether to attend his induction into the university's athletics Hall of Fame on Nov. 6. He hasn't returned to the school since his firing.

This seems bad, unless you know the beyond chilly history between the school and the man. The fact that Knight even acknowledged the invitation, that he not only admitting to knowing about it but that he revealed some measure of his thought process on the matter, and that he didn't just stare at the reporter and say "next question," is a hopeful sign for IU fans. That, of course, is assuming most IU fans even care about Bob Knight's Hall of Fame celebration. There's an argument to be made that they shouldn't. But I won't be making that argument.

Bobby Knight should stiff the ceremony - this whole "gesture" is about Indiana's attrempt at garnering some airtime and ink. Without Knight and his numerous years moulding boys into men and basketball players, Indiana has become a wasteland in the world of college basketball. Knight does not need Indiana's self-serving invitation. He has proven his stature among the greatest college basketball coaches. Indiana has no loyalty and Knight owes them nothing.

Come back to B-town Bobby! You were the man that built IU b-ball and should be honored/celebrated as such.
Plus, Hoosiers need some POSITIVE momentum heading into this season... (especially w/ UK as #1.. arg)

I for one would love to see him come back. In my eyes he will always be the best college coach. And yes I went to Indiana and even grew up in Bloomington.

Why shouldn't IU fans care about this??? He is one of the greatest coaches in history and he did most of his coaching at IU.

As a current IU student i would love to see Bob Knight back in B-town. Its unfortunate what happened to him, but the fact is it did. IU and Knight have a historic basketball history, and it would be nice to see a happy ending to all of this.
And to hitman, shut your mouth, you dont know what your saying, we have taken out the garbage that kelvin sampson brought in, and Tom Crean is building a winner, despite the worst season in school history in which we won only one game in the big 10, attendance only went up as the season continued. We are true basketball fans and love our Hoosiers.

They really don't give a crap about Bob Knight. If they weren't going for publicity and a recruiting tool he wouldn't even be getting inducted.

Tough decision for Knight...going back to face those who fired you wouldn't be fun, but listening to all the fans go absolutely crazy might would make it worth it. Go for it Knight!!! I'm a Carolina fan, but if I were there, I'd definitely be cheering for you!!!

Should Indiana not care? He is and will always be a legend in Indiana. You ask anyone about IU basketball and the first thing they think of is Knight (or how much they wanted to beat down Myles Brand). I hope he comes back, it would be the biggest thing to happen to IU sports in a long time.
