The Dagger - NCAAB

On Sunday, MJD reminded you that, no, Chase Budinger's face is not a doormat. You can not go walking about on it. That's mean, Aubrey Coleman. That hurts Chase's face. ChaseFace doesn't like that, not one bit.

Coleman was ejected and Arizona went on to win their game over Houston 96-90 in overtime, and that was that. Today, though the saga of Aubrey and Chase continues. (By the way, "The Saga of Aubrey and Chase" would make either a great MTV couples show or a 1970's cop buddy drama). Coleman has now officially, and with God as his witness, apologized to Chase and his stepped-on face:

“I want to apologize to Chase Budinger for what happened Saturday night. I never meant to step on him,” Coleman said in a statement issued by the school. “I have never been in an incident like this before, and I have nothing but respect for him as a great player. I love the game too much to do something like that intentionally. I want to say I am sorry from the bottom of my heart,” Coleman said. “I know that God knows what is in my heart, but I am hopeful that Chase will understand and forgive.”

OK, so that sounds sincere, even if it was written by a Houston athletics public relations lackey. And it should be noted that the video is inconclusive on whether the stomp was actually intentional -- Coleman is either very good at hiding his face-stomping intentions or very careless with his feet when there is a player's head underneath. In any case, maybe Budinger will forgive and forget and he and Aubrey can become Facebook friends and everyone will be happy. Or not. Whatever.

When I watched the replay for the first time, my reaction was that he sure did not look surprised when he stepped on Chase. Note how he doesnt look down when he steps on him. He keeps his gaze up as if nothing happened. When I trip on something, my very first reaction is to look down and see what is going on with my feet. He keeps his gaze and head up as if he is trying to act loke nothing happened.

I agree 100% with Patches.....that kid is a freaking punk!!! There is no room for that kind of despicable behavior like that in sports. That a**hole should be suspended by the NCAA.

It was obvious the mis-step was intentional and after reading the apology I feel sorry for Aubrey, he said "God knows what is in my heart " . Boy is he in trouble!

This was intentional, period! He took three steps and on his fourth step lifted is foot high enough to stomp on the guy. He could have walked the other way or walked around him or stop but he intended to step on the other guy.
He look down at the guy than started to look straight ahead as to not noticing him on the ground. But everybody has their own opinion and yes OJ did not kill his wife (Yea, right!!!!!).
Why would this be a racial issue? I strongly believe that if it was the other way around all the liberal media, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Luis Farakhan would be asking to have the White guy's head on a platter. Than he (The White Guy) will labeled a racist and his life ruined.
But he is a black person so nothing will happen.

Brennan, you're just as bad as MJD. You're even less funny than he is.
At least you know how to use a keyboard though.

He would've been better not saying anything. Now he's a liar as well as unsportsman-like jerk.

Intentional, no question, white, black, yellow, green, bla, bla, bla, no matter what the color, it was intentional. I agree with the comment about him mentioning "God knows what's in my heart"...Not good!

I think instead of the houston player having to issue an apology. He should have to sit in a chair and take a punch to the face from Chase, then maybe you could call it even.

Houston Thugs. Remember what that linebacker did to Tulane's quarterback after the whistle blew -- cheap shot, broke his jaw. Coach never apologized or that thug linebacker either. It was the same Houston SID department that basically said the same thing.

from the replay you can most definitely see that the stomp was done on purpose. If you look at it, he took a couple small "light" steps and then proceeds to step at a faster speed onto the other guys face which means he put an extra effort into it.
