The Dagger - NCAAB

Those watching the first big games of the season tonight have been treated to a couple of things:

1. North Carolina's Crazy Talent Destroyer Machine ... of Death. The Heels jumped out to a huge early lead on hapless Kentucky and never looked back. Since then, Kentucky has looked OK, but the damage has been done. Ugly stuff. Unless, that is, you're a fan of teams with benches that go about 12 deep. In that case, you've got to be loving this.

2. Stephen Curry's effortless skill. It's like he's not even trying to be awesome. He just is.

3. Some truly hot fashions. First? Tyler Hansbrough's suit:

Upon seeing that bit of sartorial brilliance, my colleague Chris Chase remarked, "He looks like a pit boss from a Biloxi casino." Apt. But I'd like to think Hansbrough is going for a "white Mike Wilbon in pinstripes" look, which is so on point for 2009. Either way, there's nothing gritty about that suit. That's all flash, baby. (Also: not one, but two sweater vests in the back. That's a doublevestfecta.)

Whether or not it's better than Patrick Patterson's new haircut, or lack thereof -- well, that's for you to decide after the jump.

I, for one, love teams with benches that go about 12 deep.

Tarheels are sick this year! Thank god Roy came to his senses and came back home! It's back to reloading, no more rebuilding! #1 recruiting class next year to boot!

Two games done and the Heels already have three starters sidelined by injuries. At this rate even a bench 12 deep won't get them into the spring!

When a player commits an intentional foul the way Harris did and injuries another player ... he should have to sit until that player returns. Pitino or no Kentucky is and always has been a bunch of punks.

Scott A.-Watch the replay, Ramon Harris never touched Zeller. It's just a shame Zeller is just soft. Sometimes that's what happens when you try to make things look worse than they really are.

    # 8 you need to look at the replay. It looks like there was very little contact if any. I think the injured player was trying to avoid the goal support.

Post #12 was paying attention. If Zeller had not tried a showboat dunk and gotten off balance, he might not have fallen. Not that much contact. I have seen much worse. 6' 7" vs. 7 footer? Come on. Why would Harris hang around like he wanted to help Zeller if it had been intentional?

Hey sm, after you get recruited to a D1 basketball school, start for them in place of the injured national player of the year, and even develop the ability to attempt a dunk in the first place, then maybe you can start calling Zeller soft. No, Harris didnt foul Zeller hard, and the injury came from him bracing his fall. But as for now, try thinking before you spew your idiotic crap on a message board regarding a player who is 500 times the player you will ever be.

As a UK fan, I feel bad that Zeller got hurt playing against my team. However, there was no foul. Look at the tape. Check out all the angles they showed and there was not a foul to be seen. There was light contact at most. Dicky V and all of the sports writers spout out about it being a "hard foul". It's almost like they have a crush on the Heels. Get over it; the big guy fell and hurt himself. I do it all the time.

Light contact or not by one person's opinion doesn't matter. Being airborne like that only takes a slight brush especially going hard to the basket is dangerous. Take a look at NBA players when they get airborne in those situations and check out their reactions. They know how serious it could possibly end their careers. That's why some fights breakout in the NBA . There
is no way to protect yourself coming down when you're knocked off balance like that. Been there, done that!

Hey Scott A, If you looked at the replay of the foul on Zeller, Harris was going for the ball and barely even grazed his back. It's unfortunate that Zeller is out for the year, but it's a rough sport. Kentucky is one of the classiest programs out there. So I don't know where that punk comment came from?

Scoot A you must really be touchy if you think that was a hard foul. Besides if you ever played basketball you would know nothing comes easy.

DURWOOD is right. A little bump while you are dribbling is a whole different story than a little bump when you are in the air. I know Harris didnt foul on purpose, but you are down 17 with 1:30 left and you bump a guy who is on a break-away going for a dunk?? And for the person who said Zeller tried a showboat dunk and fell off balance... are you kidding? For one, Zeller is a lanky, 7 foot white guy, its not like he went for a 360 windmill and fell off balance. He went for a regular, everyday dunk. You cant expect the kid to run the break and then lay it in when there is a defender right on his back. Its a shame this happened to the kid so early in his career.

i get it, North Carolina is a great basektball program...but what is with the Tyler Hansbrough fetish...its just like Greg Oden (who was incredibly overrated)..even when he wasnt playing, people just had to write stories that included him..its just retarded
