Grow up, D.J. White

As mentioned earlier, Indiana star forward D.J. White and five of his Sampson-loving teammates (who will heretofore by referred to as D.J. White and the Sampsonites) skipped Dan Dakich's first practice as Sampson's interim successor.

It's a ridiculous way to act.

I get it, you're upset that your pal Kelvin Sampson was fired. You liked him. He was nice to you. He's a great guy.

But that doesn't make him above the rules. Just because Sampson shows up at practice every day and tells you that you're a unique and special snowflake, doesn't mean he can do whatever he wants without consequences. He broke the rules, and now he has to (sort of) pay for it.

Understand that adults have to pay the consequences for their actions, and then, if you really feel the need, write "KS" or your shoes or something equally poignant. Don't just quit on your teammates.

I blame Sampson for this, too. His last act as head coach should have been, if he had any interest in the futures of these young men at all, to gather his team, tell them it was his fault and his fault alone that he was gone, remind them that they signed up to play for Indiana and not for Kelvin Sampson, and that the next coach, whoever it was to be, deserves their utmost respect.

Based on the actions of the D.J. White and the Sampsonites, though, I'm guessing that didn't happen.

So now Indiana has these six guys skipping out on a practice, essentially spitting in Dan Dakich's face and cutting his legs out from under him on his first day on the job. Not to mention that White's supposed to be the team's leader, and he and five of his boys are totally leaving their teammates in the lurch.

Reports said that everyone was back on the court for the Friday night walkthrough, and they're all expected to be on the bus for the Northwestern game Saturday.

There's one way and one way only for Dakich to put his stamp on this team immediately, and to get his metaphorical balls back. Welcome D.J. White and the Sampsonites back to the team, take them to Northwestern, and then glue their asses to the bench for the entire game.

Sitting them on the bench isn't the way to get over this. D J White has went through more than most IU players have ever been. Getting close to 2 coaches is like Knight And Day; Now in his last month he has to go through another change. How many college players ever been through this. D, J., we as Indiana fans appreciate your time at Indiana and are pulling for you and your team. Go win for what ever reason you want, but most of all win fou yourself, just dont quit for all eyes are upon you and your team. May we look this Indiana team like none other and appreciate this team for bringing us back a power everyone is talking about.

If they do not honor their scholarships and play they should be expelled. Period.

Kelvin got what he deserved. And By the way I don't know who they will get as head coach. But maybe they ought to think about hiring Bob Knight as new head coach. Knight is free now he is not coach any more at Texas Tech, he would be perfect.

bgbdwolf, DJ White may have had to go through some 'hardships' and a lot of change during his years at Indiana, but that doesn't mean he has the right to deal with those changes like a baby. What exactly did he and his teammates expect to happen? "Oh, some players are skipping a practice.....we better take the job away from Dakich and give it to someone the players like!" Come on, thats just naive and, to be honest, stupid. He's got one more month as a IU basketball player......why not just play out the string and focus on his future, rather than a place he's going to be leaving. It says something about White that a freshman, Eric Gordon, showed more leadership and common sense during this time than White.

being an IU fan since the 70's where i grew up i know the players. Yes they could play string players but i feel this is America and as Americans we have the right to make a statement when something bothers us. Is D. J. right, personally i think him skipping a practise when he felt something was wrong isnt that bad. Have you ever took a day off work when you needed to back away? I have and those who know me would never consider me a quiter, maybe a bad speller at times. Dan Dakich was one of my favorite players out of Indiana and i feel he understood the situation and wasnt as offended as others may think he was. Let's see IU play tonite and the rest of the season and hope they can come out of this like Fisher coach the Michigan team way back when

I resent the implication of the article...
First of all, as an adult, if I went to work for a company because I liked my potential manager, and then that manager was fired and replaced by some guy I didn't like... Well, I reserve the right to quit my job. If upper management wants to make that decision to fire the manager, that is definitely their right. If I decide to quit that organization because I didn't like that decision, that is definitely my right. That whole side of the argument is a red herring. Secondly, as someone who thinks that it is morally wrong to punish student-athletes for wanting to transfer after a coaching change (having to sit out one year), I think this sort of attitude is despicable.

OK Cramer so thats why they sat out practice, because they didn't get to hire the new head coach. Thats why they were given free rides, so they could be on the hiring committee. Let me guess the complexion of McCallum, I thought so. And if it was the other way around what would we be calling it? I thought so!

You know this is all a matter of opinion and I am so glad that I have my opinion on this matter. You see no one said anything about how hard this young man has work throughout his college career on and off the court. I for one think that there was not a problem with what he did at all he is the heart off the team and the heart was hurt and for good reason. So, until you walk a mile in someone else shoes keep your comments to yourself.
