Extra Onions are, you know, links and stuff. Got something I should see? Want to urge me to use a different photo of John Wall? (Sorry, this is the only one I can find. At least it's cool.) Email me or follow me on Twitter

This might actually qualify as news! Banner day! It's been almost five days since we caught up with what John Wall, uber-recruit/basketball-playing robot from the future/teenager, was maybe or maybe not going to do with his college career, and that's just far too long for anyone's comfort, so let's get back into it. Why? Because today there appears to be actual news, sort of. From Adam Zagoria at Zagsblog:

John Wall is down to two schools — Kentucky and Miami — according to multiple sources close to the situation. “It’s down to the two of them, no question about it,” one source said. “It is Kentucky and Miami. The kid is leaning toward Kentucky. There is a little bit of a concern with the people closest to him that if he goes to Kentucky that they’re going to lose control.”

While I'm not sure what "lose control" means -- do we mean lose control of his behavior, or lose control of who gets to deal with Wall and how? -- this report squares with common sense: Wall raved about his visit to Miami, and John Calipari rarely loses top players to anyone. It makes sense. Then again, this is an anonymously reported take on the whims of a 19-year-old, so who really knows? Wall's response to Zagoria's text message -- "I don't know." -- pretty much sums it up. Neither do we, John. {Zagsblog}

Speaking of Miami ... Wall really did rave about his visit to Miami a week or so ago, saying he "hadn't really considered" the Hurricanes until he saw the campus and how athletes got along with each other, and so on. Miami's staying power in this recruiting thing really hasn't been talked about enough. Miami getting Wall would be a bigger coup than the time I convinced a girl I'd just met at the bar to watch "Punch-Drunk Love" with me. {High School Hoop}

If only blogging was like being John Wall. The Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy writes that everyone will wait for John Wall, forever. He has no deadline. Lucky guy. {The Sporting News}

Old, non-John Wall links for your enjoyment:

-- Most people lose recruits to John Calipari, and his former assistants -- his coaching "family" -- rarely challenge him for players. Josh Pastner, Memphis wunderkind and Calipari assistant, is apparently not adhering to that code. Ooooh. Drama. {Memphis Commercial Appeal}

-- "John Wooden is too busy to deal with death." Great headline, better photo. {Los Angeles Times}

-- More "Tom Izzo Goes To Broadway" fun, including a little more video. There can never be too much video of Tom Izzo dancing and singing {CBS Sportsline}

    im a uk fan and i thought calipari and memphis was the best fit. now that coach cal is at uk, id have to honestly say that uk is the best fit. the ddmo is made for john wall, and while he'd b good n any offense, he'd b great in the ddmo. it's amazing what coach cal is doing n kentucky n such a short time, and john wall sees that. i would imagine he realizes he could b a part of something very special at uk whether its for 1 yr or 4. he would b surrounded by weapons n an offense that highlights his abilities, and gives him the best chance out of all of the schools on his list to compete for and win a national championship. also, coach cal can prepare him for the nba better than any other coach in the game. look no further than rookie of the year and #1 overall draft pick, drose. the same case can b made with tevans. give coach cal 1 yr and he will help u b a lottery pick, its that simple. miami is a nice place, and if wall likes it he could always buy a house there after calipari helps him take his game to the next level at kentucky. besides, if wall was a football player, miami would have a shot cause thats all miami and its fans care about. being a basketball player, i dont think its even close. kentucky fans love their basketball team, and john wall would b a superstar. wherever he decides to go, he knows that coach cal can best prepare him for the nba, and with the relationship they already have, id put my money on him commiting to john calipari and the kentucky wildcats.

    sure cause that worked out so well with bledsoe, and it would probably help if memphis was on wall's list. pastner will b a good coach. he'll win some recruits over in the future, but i dont see him winning any isolated 1 on 1 recruiting battles with calipari. he can definitely recruit though, its just that hes been recruiting for calipari and olsen. now he has to recruit for himself. players r gonna have to see how he plays before they even consider choosing him over calipari or any of the other great coaches out there. its gonna take time, but memphis will b a good team again. it's hard to say they'll b great again any time soon, but i don't doubt they'll b good again soon. its cusa and as soon as pastner can win there he can get into the tournament, and anything can happen in march. its time to rebuild memphis, and everybody goes through it. i think time will tell that pastner is a good hire, but the key word here is time.

    You know, this is all getting tiresome. Sure, John Wall is a great player and would bring to the table an array of skills at the PG position. But, at what price must a College and/or Team pay through the course of a season for this Diva? He likes attention, this long drawn out process is an attention getter for some and growing tiresome for others like myself. He likes to hang out in vacant homes in the wee hours of the night. So far, what he has done off of the court is not that impressive. Does a team with a lot of potential already need a distractor?

    Miami?? Really? Aren't they a big football school? (And I really do not mean any disrespect by my question). I'm not shocked UK is one of the choices, just shocked that it's a football school like Miami over a b-ball school like Duke. No matter, we'd love to have his talent at UK coupled with Bledsoe :) GO CATS!

    John Wall was out late? He was in a VACANT house? ( He shouldnt have been in it BUT!! It was empty.) So what if he was? Come on .. Get real! Every teen has done something that they shouldnt have done and if him staying out late and being in an empty house is the worst he has done then why even bring it up? Oooh everyone else is so perfect that they can judge Wall. LMFAO OMG PLEEEEASE! Did he hold up anyone one? Tie them up? Beat them to death? Car jack? Rob a bank? LMAO This is crazy and give the kid a break! Yea hes dragging this picking a school thing out. Hes enjoying the attention and its pissing off everyone who has an interest in him . Hey..Thats life.. Deal with it. If he chooses UK then we will welcome him here and if not... Then good luck to him. And as far as we dont need Wall... UK and any other school can NEVER have to many weapons as long as everyone gets along and plays as a team. If they dont then coach Cal will sure enough earn his millions. Any way it goes he is a KID and should be allowed to live and LEARN from his mistakes. GO CATS AND GO COACH CAL!!!
