The Anton
Chigurh: The team that's just going to end up killing everyone, without apology or remorse.
MJD: I hate to go with the obvious, but Carolina's a machine right now.
If they can dictate the tempo, they'll run most teams out of the building. If
they can't dictate the tempo, Ty Lawson's got his giddy-up back and can take
anyone off the dribble, they can always go to Hansbrough in the post, and
they've got ridiculous shooters in Wayne Ellington and Marcus Ginyard. They've
got all the bases covered.
Eamonn: Tennessee. If there's one thing Bruce Pearl's proven about
himself in the past, oh, five years or so, it's that he knows how to coach to
the tournament. Tennessee's fast-paced style works well in a single-elimination
atmosphere, the Volunteers are even more talented than they were during their
trip to last year's Sweet Sixteen, and the chip on their shoulder from this
unfavorable No. 2 slot should function similarly to Chigurh's when the
drug-running boss decided to outsource his assassin's responsibilities. Bad
idea, dude.
The Llewelyn
Moss. The balls-of-steel underdog who will fight and claw, despite being generally outclassed.
MJD: Since they got the high hard one with a 7-seed, I say Butler
qualifies as an underdog, and should they advance to play Tennessee, you're
going to see one of the fastest-playing teams in the nation against one of the
slowest. According to Ken Pomeroy's stats,
Tennessee plays at the 19th fastest pace in the nation, and Butler plays at the
327th fastest. It's easier to slow a team down than speed a team up, especially
when that team's as good as Butler. Two of the four games Tennessee's lost have
come against the 281st and 255th fastest teams in the nation.
Eamonn: I'd like to root for Indiana the way I rooted for Moss, but the
Hoosiers don't have a fifth of his scrap, so instead I'll toss out Winthrop. The
Eagles aren't a particularly appealing offensive team, but their defensive
efficiency numbers put them among the best teams in the country at that end of
the floor. That should keep their opener with Washington State close, and a win
sets up a potential second round rematch with Notre Dame, who the Eagles upset
last year. Win that, and Winthrop goes from Cinderella to purported Gonzaga
Version 2.0 (which is really Butler anyway) in two games.
The Carson
Wells. The recognizable big name that's not going to live for very long.
MJD: Oklahoma got a pretty tough draw with St. Joe's. They fell in the
final of the A-10 tournament, but not after beating two teams by double digits,
and then (again) knocking off Xavier. If they do get past the Hawks, I don't see
any way they're beating Louisville, who's playing some of the best ball in the
country right now.
Eamonn: Oklahoma. The Sooners got seeded two or three seeds above their
station, and a first-round game with St. Joseph's will soften them up for the
pounding Louisville will put on them in the second round. No way Oklahoma lasts
past the first weekend; their run will be even shorter than ol' Carson's and
considerably less interesting.

evidenced by your point) is consistently underranked.
Now that I've said that, they'll probably bow out in the first round.
