Forget going undefeated, North Carolina needs to now worry about getting out of the ACC cellar. While most were watching the NFL playoffs we had our first stunner of the college basketball season, as the No. 1 Tar Heels were knocked off at home by Boston College, who entered the contest with a non-descript 12-2 mark. BC led for nearly the entire second half, holding on for an 85-78 victory despite a near-collapse in the final four minutes.

This loss shouldn't cause too much worry in Chapel Hill; going undefeated was a ridiculous notion and an early season loss for a team with such lofty aspirations is rarely a bad thing. However, there are a few things that should concern Roy Williams:

1) Carolina's interior defense -- BC's athleticism made North Carolina look slow and small in the middle, something that would have seemed preposterous to suggest a few hours ago.

2) An over-reliance on Tyler Hansbrough -- Hansbrough is the best player in the country, but he looked like he was pushing tonight. He made a number of questionable decisions, including taking a number of contested shots in which he passed up open teammates.

3) The comeback, or lack thereof -- Good teams lose games like Carolina just lost. Great teams do not. BC did everything but hand this game to Carolina on a silver platter in the final two minutes -- committing ridiculous turnovers, fouling and taking questionable shots --  but the Heels couldn't capitalize. This is likely what will trouble Roy Williams the most.

Make no mistake, the North Carolina Tar Heels are still the best basketball team in the country and are the prohibitive favorite to win the national championship. But, things just got a whole lot more interesting.

As a BC grad living in Raleigh, what a win. I have never seen fans in the stands moan or complain so much when GOD forbid a foul is called on Carolina. The only other bigger fan babies are located in Durham (Duke). Go Eagles....great win BC

I agree UNC is still a top tier team but I wish everyone WOULD stop handing them the Trophy already !!!!!!!! There are a lot of teams out there that can win it all. Plus UNC lost at home !! There are a lot of ACC TEAMS that can beat them when they play like they played and BC tried like hell in the last 4 min to keep hope alive in the Dean DOME, SO MEDIA, UNC FANS AND ANYONE WITH BASKETBALL SENSE KNOWS THERE IS A LONG WAY TO GO BEFORE SOMEONE, ANYONE CUT DOWN THE NETS, BC MADE THAT VERY DAMN CLEAR.

go eagles! unc got lucky - hansboro traveled 4 steps on an open court dunk, jackson didnt travel at the end, you guys were going over the back all game - the eagles showed how to play tough, hard nose basketball!
i agree, hansboro wont last 3 years in the nba (southern shouldn't be able to shut him down like he did)

the best was when handbrough pushed a bc player into the stands late in the game, grabbed the rebound, missed the layup but they called a touch foul...

as a unc fan, this is highly disappointing to say the least...expected them to lose against wake or duke, but unranked BC??? Well, better lose now than during the tournament I guess.
