The Dagger - NCAAB

The much-hyped Wake Forest-Clemson battle was a fairly chippy affair with players exchanging words, elbows, forearms and leg locks. Things also spilled over into the stands when it appeared that a Clemson student tackled Wake center Chas McFarland:

Here's the way it looked to me: McFarland, who plays pretty chippily, couldn't avoid the Clemson student as he went out of bounds. However, once McFarland made contact, it looked like he put a little extra mustard on the collision (like when a defender drives a quarterback into the ground). Then, when they're tangled while trying to get up, the Clemson student looks like he wants to take McFarland down and does so by taking advantage of his awkward stance and body slams the Wake player to the ground. Bush league. (For those who doubt the guilt of the student, look at his eyes right before the takedown. He looks up to no good.)

Naturally, both the Wake and Clemson message boards are defensive on the matter, but I think McFarland gave as good as he got in this one. However, both were in the wrong and that Clemson student (whose face was quite clear on television) should be banned from games for the rest of the season.

Wow haven't seen anything like this in a while. As neither a Wake nor a Clemson fan, it looks to me that the Wake player is just falling down and is then just bodyslammed by the Clemson player. I don't see what the Wake player could have done short of falling onto the stairs instead of into the student section. This is an unbelievable action by the Clemson student, he should be punished.

The player was trying to push on the student and he wouldn't have any part of it. He got what he deserved! Hook-um

That was obviously an attempt by the Clemson student to take advantage of the situation...cheap shot when the WF player wasn't expecting it. The Clemson thug should be banned from ALL Clemson sports for the rest of the year. If that had happened in a public place (bar, store, church..etc) he would be in jail.

McFarland looked to be picking up the speared student when it was flipped on him and he got dropped. They were both in the wrong and it's a wash in my opinion.

I have a different view. It look like the player intially tried to pick up the fan and I guess he realise what he was doing decided to let him go and than the fan turned and slammed him.

It doesn't even appear to me that the player tries to hit the fan as hard as he did. Pause at 0:07. The player clearly trips over the the camera man sitting on the ground behind the endline, sending him flying into the student section.
The fan in this situation was clearly in the wrong. You know you run the risk of a player coming into the stands sitting in the first few rows and he goes ahead and body slams the player anyway. He deserves to be suspended from the rest of Clemson's games this year, as well as some other punishment.

Wasn't that the kid who threw beer on Dennis Rodman up at the Pistons-Pacers game a couple years back? Looks like he's now migrated back home to S.C.

the fan was probably a frat-boy , that is not talented enough to play college sports, and wanted to show his other frat-boyfriends he's a tough guy.

Not a fan of either team or even a fan of basketball so I watched this with a unbiased opinion. To me it looks as if the player doesn't really add anything to his fall, it doesn't look as if he's trying to harm the fan, it looks accidental to me. The fan on the other hand totally looks as if he's trying to hurt the guy.

I don't have any bias either way between Clemson or WakeForest, but it looks to me like the player was raising the fan up when the fan made a self defense move. As someone who used to attend games as a student, I would have done the same thing. Nothing should be done to the Clemson fan.

Looked to me like the player picked up the student and tried to slam him. I dont think the student at all looked like he was trying to slam the player you can tell just by how they landed.
