Blake Griffin, video game cover boy

Every year, a new college basketball player graces the cover of EA Sports' NCAA Basketball 10, and every year, I find this at least moderately interesting. This year's athlete? Blake Griffin. And it goes a little something like this:

Ooh. Very blurry. It's like Blake Griffin is Neo in "The Matrix" and he's about to dunk on you with his flying hands of computer-generated lethality. Or something.

Anyway, I'm an admitted gamer, and I love sports games. So it is with love and yearning that I say: Don't buy this game. Every year, NCAA Basketball is bad. Sorry, people-who-make-the-game-and-who-I'm-sure-are-nice-people, but it's bad. It was bad in '09. It was bad the year before. Every year, the game's developers manage to cook up some new gadget -- the "momentum meter," or something -- while overlooking simple details like, say, making a game that doesn't freeze up every time I call a full-court press, or creating characters that don't land out of bounds any time I do a jump stop near the sideline. And so on, ad infinitum.

So, yes, rant aside, here's the new box art for the basketball video game most relevant to this blog's interests. Enjoy. But if I were you, I'd put my reserve cash on NBA 2K10 instead.
