As if the Blue Devils needed the extra attention.
Our nation's president will take in another college basketball game this weekend when he saunters into the Verizon Center Saturday, where he's expected to give Greg Monroe a few tips on how to not be such a pushover. (I keed, I keed.)
According to The Hill, which The Dagger can confirm is a credible Web site, Obama will be on hand as part of a fundraiser to help children and educators in Darfur. You may have heard: He kind of likes basketball too.
Saturday's game at the MCI Center will raise money for educational programs in the war-ravaged Darfur region of Sudan, and other special guests include NBA star Tracy McGrady, Alexander Aleinikoff, the United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees, and John Prendergast, Co-founder of Enough, the project to end genocide and crimes against humanity at the Center for American Progress.
Georgetown also put out a press release that asked people to plan on showing up 45 minutes early for tip-off. The Man in Charge has a tendency to clog up a road or two.
My question is, will he stay for the whole game? The Obamas bailed after halftime of the Oregon State-George Washington game back in November. And that involved his brother-in-law, who coaches the Beavers. Then again, it was Oregon State-G.W. I might have trouble keep my lunch down if I attended such an event.
And so, because Duke-Georgetown must have a loser, the predictable "Obama cursed us!" meme will live to see another day.
