The Dagger - NCAAB

A few weeks back, Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy was charged with assault after allegedly punching -- and hurling racial epithets toward -- a Middle-Eastern cab driver in Cincinnati. Every night before I go to bed, I've been praying for one thing: police video of the incident. Also: for that money I sent those polite Nigerian men via email a few years ago. Finally, one of my prayers has been answered:

God, that's delicious. "This could be an international incident." Kennedy isn't wrong: Chris Mottram has already found the (fake) U.N.'s agenda from Dec. 12, which of course includes the arrest of an Ole Miss basketball coach next to the accounting of nuclear materials and global energy crisis.

Anyway, the video doesn't actually condemn Kennedy; none of the racial slurs alleged by the cab driver show up on the video because, duh, the cops wouldn't have been there during the whole thing. And still, the video makes Kennedy and his director of basketball operations look incredibly unprofessional and silly. These are college basketball coaches. Adults. I'm all for making drunk mistakes in front of police officers at 3 a.m., but I'm doubting university administrators will feel so lenient.

Plus, this thing is sure to blow up on Al-Jazeera and become an international incident. Who needs that sort of stress?

By "international incident", he meant that his next job would be coaching the La Paz Drug Mules of the Bolivian Professional Basketball League if he gets busted for this.

that doesn't even surprise me. that's what you'd expect from uc folk. if they aren't getting arrested or trying to set their roommates on fire, what good are they? certainly not good at basketball. gotta love cincinnati's police, too. they're a fun bunch. go xavier!

This jack as! at least gave it the ole college try. It's not that long ago when the good ole boys would have spun this story way differently.

What if this guy really is innocent? He once upon a time coached at Cincy. The cab driver may have put 2 plus 2 together and figured this poor slob was worth a few easy bucks. I doubt it likely the driver was a disgruntled UC fan, buck hey, I can't say it would surprise me.
As in poor taste as the alleged "racial slurs" would be (if they were actually said), the commentary is not against the "real law" -- simply modern social convention. The legal issue is if he hit the driver. If he did then he deserves a bit of jail time and to part with his money. However, if the taxi driver is simply making this stuff up then he not only deserves to be sued, he deserves jail time for filing a false police report. If this story is fabricated he needs how cruel is it to cause all this stress to an innocent man?
On a related note, are not police videos intended for the protection of the officer in case HE is accused of a false charge by the arrested party? I also understand it may exist to hopefully catch an unintentional confession. Why is such a video of a pending trial/case being released to the press? Will such a video not taint the jury pool? If Kennedy is worthy of acting unprofessional, what about the Cincy police?

The "We deal with the Bengals all the time" line is telling, since CPD TARGETS the Bengals... most crooked and racist law enforcement group this side of the LAPD.

That said, since this is Cincinnati... I'm a bit skeptical Kennedy said those things, since he most likely gets called that and worse every day... not to mention if this had been a couple of average white boys instead of guys coaching a major(?) college program, the cabbie woulda been the one in cuffs.
