Oh, boy. This is never good:

The University of Arkansas suspended five players Tuesday, including three athletes identified in a rape complaint that did not result in charges, for violating unspecified team rules.

Coach John Pelphrey said guards Courtney Fortson and Stefan Welsh were suspended indefinitely. Guard Marcus Britt was suspended for six games, forward Glenn Bryant two games, and walk-on guard Nick Mason will not dress for games during the fall semester.

The alleged rape in question first came to prominence when the school made public notice of guard Courtney Fortson for tweeting that he was "gettin it at workouts like a dude who doesnt understand the word no from a drunk girl lol." LOL! Actually, that is not lol-able at all, because rape isn't funny -- not usually, anyway -- and Fortson, Arkansas' leading returning scorer, is now suspended indefinitely for merely tweeting something he probably thought was harmless and funny. Yeah, I have a feeling John Pelphrey and Arkansas fans won't be lol-ing about this anytime soon.

In the meantime, Arkansas goes about repairing its reputation. Competition for recruits is already hard enough. Entering a recruit's living room knowing you'll have to explain away possible group-rape allegations against members of your basketball team? Pelphrey needed to put that behind him. We'll see if this does the job.

Why would you suspend a kid for making a joke on a website? If you read further, they say that the suspensions are not all related to the rape incident, so it's more likely that Fortson was suspended for something else. It seems like it's just one bad thing after another with Arkansas. Pelphrey has run the program even more into the ground. He pretends he's a strong disciplinarian, but things have only gotten worse since he got there and the results on the court haven't been much better.

Arkansas athletics has always been a joke, even when they have managed any level of success. The south is a place where there is no aspirations for anything more than being a somebody in high school or college sports. After that, you have arrived when you manage a Wal-Mart or McDonalds and have way too many kids for your salary to provide for.
Sad, sad, sad. 1994 will never return to the basketball team and the rednecks need to understand that and start living a real life.

This is a joke? Guys rape a gal... and get put out for playing a few games? hello... Arkansas justice system better step up and nail these bubbas.... and someone is not getting the message to the players... that just because they play roundball it doesn't let them break the law ... are these players attending class? Are they student/ath
or just bubbas that like to play basketball? Do they want an education? College classes are hard enough without spending time be crazy outside the classroom... all the extra tudoring and special assistance athletes get at arkansas.... these bubbas are showing respect for their university.... this is foolishness... it all started when Frank Broyles went nuts on firing Nolan Richardson over finding some common ground... Arkansas was exposed for being.... Redneck 100%.... so what has happen... each year they continue to pay the price for their wrong deeds... Freddie Hatfield left the football program because of a nutty A.D. Lou did the same... will Arkansas ever get the ship sailing in the right direction again..? That is the question... who really knows.... i could say a lot more..
but most folks understand what is going on at the u of a... and I agree with commish... joke ....

This piece of "journalism" is unfortunate. The slightest amount of research would have confirm that Fortson's "suspension" was a self-imposed leave of absense to deal with unspecified personal issues. To the Rhodes Scholars above who like to talk about "rednecks", look in the mirror, fellas. By the way, jim m, who is Freddie Hatfield? Do you mean Ken?
