Virginia apparently wasn’t good enough to earn better than a No. 5 national seed in the eyes of the NCAA tournament selection committee. But in our minds, there’s no question the Cavaliers are one of the nation’s elite.
With the NCAA tournament on the horizon, Virginia enters postseason play as the top-ranked team in the Rivals Top 25.
The Cavaliers are coming off another solid week that included a 2-1 record in the ACC tournament with wins over Boston College and Miami.
The Cavaliers are followed by Arizona State, Texas, Florida and UCLA. The Sun Devils finished the regular season with a road series win over Stanford, Texas went 0-3 in the Big 12 tournament, Florida went 2-2 in the SEC tournament and UCLA ended the regular season with a home series win over Washington State.
Also worth noting, Florida State moved from No. 13 to No. 11 following a great showing in the ACC tournament, UC Irvine moved from No. 25 to No. 21 after going 3-1 last week with a series sweep over Long Beach State, and Vanderbilt rounds out the top 25 after going 1-2 in the SEC tourney.
Oregon and Mississippi dropped out of our rankings. Texas A&M and LSU, meanwhile, entered the rankings at Nos. 22 and 23, respectively.
Here are the conference breakdowns: SEC (6), ACC (5), Pac-10 (3), Big 12 (3), Big East (2), Big West (2), Big South (1), Mountain West (1), Conference USA (1), West Coast (1).
Records in the rankings do not include ties.
