The Rivals.com Top 25 is back to where it started the season. Well, sort of.
Texas was the preseason No. 1 team entering the season but dropped out of the top spot after losing its season-opening series to New Mexico. The Longhorns, though, ascended to the top spot of the rankings for the first time since that weekend with another fantastic week that included a dominant midweek win and a series sweep over Oklahoma State.
The Longhorns are in the midst of a 16-game winning streak and lead the Big 12 regular-season title race by five games with an impressive 16-2 mark.
Virginia had another strong weekend and follows the Longhorns at No. 2. Arizona State, meanwhile, dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 following a 2-2 week, while UCLA and Florida round out the top five.
Mississippi is a big winner, too. The Rebels had a perfect week that included a huge home series sweep over LSU. As a result, the Rebels climbed from No. 20 to No. 15 following the weekend. Connecticut, meanwhile, entered the top 20 after extending its winning streak to 21 games with a series sweep of Rutgers over the weekend.
Virginia Tech also made a nice climb this week, moving from No. 25 to No. 20 following a road series win over Georgia Tech.
Clemson and Kansas State dropped out of this week’s rankings. Stanford and San Diego entered at Nos. 22 and 25, respectively.
Here are the conference breakdowns: Pac-10 (6), ACC (5), SEC (5), Big 12 (2), Big East (2), Big West (1), Big South (1), Mountain West (1), Conference USA (1), West Coast (1).
