Scouting Report on Geneo Grissom

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game settingby Barry Every - 11/3/2009
  • SpeedBlue Chip
  • SizeBlue Chip
  • StrengthDivision I Player
  • AgilityBlue Chip
  • Lateral PursuitDivision I Player
On the Hoof: Has a lean, athletic lower body like a basketball player. His upper body is extremely developed with wide shoulders, thick chest and really long arms. He is built similar to a young Robert Quinn of North Carolina.
Needs Improvement: Needs to improve lower body strength and size in order to help with cut blocks and battling runs straight at him. Grissom needs to play in control because he has a tendency to overrun plays.
Most Impressive: His pursuit of the quarterback is relentless, as he uses his long arms to reach out and catch them off-guard. He also does a nice job closing passing lanes by getting his arms and hands up at the right time.
Conclusion: Expect Grissom to start his career off as a weakside defensive end and eventually grow into an interchangeable defensive end. If he proves to be a threat as a pass rusher expect him to play early, especially in definite passing situations. It is hard to keep big, athletic guys that can run off the field, even as freshmen.
