    Scouting Report on Mike Thornton

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game setting, Campby Barry Every - 11/3/2009

    • Lateral PursuitDivision I Player
On the Hoof: Has very wide base with thick thighs and calves and muscular upper body with wide shoulders. His build is very similar to that of Miami Hurricane sophomore Marcus Fortson.
Needs Improvement: Would like to see him improve his hip and knee flexibility, which should help him stay lower at the point of attack and improve his uncoiling power coming out of his stance.
Most Impressive: He has extremely quick feet and lateral movement that gives him the ability to sidestep offensive linemen before they can even get out of their stance. Thornton also possesses a tremendous powerbase which gives him a natural advantage when it comes to leverage.
Conclusion: He could make an immediate impact making the two-deep at defensive tackle because of his size and strength. Thornton definitely has what it takes to eventually become an all-league performer at a position that is the most physically demanding of any on the football field.
