On the Hoof: James possesses tremendous lower body structure but is a little soft up top. He also appears a bit taller than his listed 5-10. Is built a little like LeSean McCoy.
Needs Improvement: Needs to improve body structure and add more strength. Would like to see him improve his downfield speed and improve his route running out of the backfield. Needs to run with forward body lean he has a tendency to run upright. Most Impressive: He has excellent change of direction and very good vision.
James also does a nice job catching the ball with his hands and can jump out of the building. He is also a gamer. Playing against a difficult schedule, James seems to excel best when the bullets are flying in game competition.
Conclusion: Early playing time as a freshman will hinge on the depth chart at whatever school he goes to. James is more of an all-purpose back right now than an every-down back. If he hits the weights hard and improves strength he could become a two- or three-year starter as full-time running back.
